Salamat Ali Khan was born in 1934 in Punjab, decided to go to Pakistan after partition of India in 1947 and was one of the foremost Khyal singers of his new home there. In duet with his brother Nazakat Ali Khan he made some legendary LP recordings in the 1960s and became known worldwide. After separating from his brother because of family disputes in 1974, Salamat Ali Khan continued his career in duet with his son Sharafat. Salamat Ali Khan died in 2001.
