Ghungroos / Foot Bells Kathak Student
The classical North Indian dance style kathak uses ghungroos with a large number of bells for elaborate footwork. Our kathak student ghungroos are great for lerning this elegant art.
The bigger and heavier the bells, the better the sound.

50 brass bells per foot, i.e. a total of 100 bells per pair, braided on white cotton cord.
Ghungroos are small bells usually made of brass that are tied to the ankles in Indian dancing. They hardly have any reverb, which enables them to produce the complex rhythmic patterns of classical Indian dance with great accuracy. The number of bells ranges from just a few up to a hundred per foot in different styles. Kathak ghungroos are braided on a cord which is tied as tightly as possible around the ankles for highest precision. Dancers usually wear some cloth underneath the kathak ghungroos to protect the skin.
