The 39 keys give a range of three octaves and two half note steps. Each note is fitted with two reeds in middle and low octave (male / bass). They can be played separately or in combination, giving three different tonal colours. The external bellows open to the top. They fold out and fill themselves automatically when unlocked. You just need to pull them towards yourself for playing - always against a little resistence, though. The removable cover on top of the key mechanisms (jali) allows variations of volume and timbre. The high gloss natural shellac surfaces give this harmonium a great classy look.

Pine wood is the first choice for harmoniums around Delhi and in North Western India. It is much softer than teak wood, which is more common in Mumbai and Calcutta. Therefore pinewood harmoniums often get little dents or scratches during manufacturing, storage or transit to Europe. Such marks are a natural property of the wood and can not be seen as flaws or defects.

Manufacturer / Supplier

SARANGG is the brand of harmonium maker Esrajya International LLP in Delhi, who specialises in high quality harmoniums in Delhi style. The grandfather of Mayank Kumar, the current boss, founded the company in 1966, after having trained for 10 years with the renowned harmonium maker Ratiram. For decades Esrajya International has worked exclusively as a supplier for various dealers. Since 2020 Esrajya International is offering harmoniums under its own brand name Sarangg through India Instruments. Sarangg harmoniums are marked by a particularly fine quality of materials and workmanship and thus stand out from similarly constructed models of other manufacturers.

Tuning

In India, our harmoniums are tuned to international concert pitch of a = 440 hertz. In Europe, however, they usually sound slightly higher at a = 441 to 442 Hertz due to the colder climate. The difference is small and not necessarily noticeable even to trained ears.

On request we can tune exactly to 440 hertz for 28 € additional charge.

Tuning to 432 hertz is also possible by arrangement for an additional charge.

NOTE:
Air temperature and blowing pressure influence the vibration frequency of harmonium reeds. At higher temperature and higher pressure, it decreases; at lower temperature, it increases. In our workshop in Berlin we tune  at room temperature around 20 degrees Celsius.
