In 2005 Tom Schäfer wrote the following review in the magazine 'sticks':

Starting with the fascination of the kanjira - the smallest frame drum in the world - Hakim Ludin leads us into the exciting South Indian rhythm system, which defines rhythmic events using a syllable language and clapping techniques. The Talam system combines voice and motor skills, so that a far-reaching access to pulse and rhythm can be found, opening access even to the most complicated metric cycles clear.

Hakim Ludin is one of the greatest percussionists of Europe. In addition to Latin percussion he has studied Arab and Far Eastern percussion phenomena and now open the door to the discovery of the kanjira. Parallel to teaching the South Indian rhythm language syllables, he shows playing techniques of the small hand drum that allows for unprecedented sound diversity and has its own exotic charm.

Exercises, groove patterns, stroke combinations, etc. are shown with two camera angles (long shot, close-up), maling all details clearly visible. The 70-minute video private lessons fly by, because the exciting exploration of this amazing hand drum as well as Hakim's friendly teaching style have great class. The depth and quality of the kanjira lessons against the backdrop of a fascinating rhythm language is a great step into the discovery of new percussion worlds. Recommended!
