We usually stock Narayan Badya Bhandar Premium tablas in any diameter between 5 and 6 inches (= 12.70 to 15.24 cm), covering a pitch range of a full octave from low G to high f. Custom-made tablas according to your individual specifications can be ordered as well. Please let us know the required pitch and diameter when you place an order!

Dayan
The Narayan Badya Bhandar Premium dayan shell is made of solid, well seasoned mahogany wood. This kind of wood gives a good resonance and is relatively heavy, thus providing a perfect combination of great sound and stable standing. The use of Indian rosewood (shishum) is restricted by international wildlfe conservation agreements since 2017. There we do not sell shishum tablas any more.
The heads (goat skin) are made with special care and the shyai (rice paste and iron dust) is built specifically to produce the desired pitch. A Narayan Badya Bhandar Premium dayan will therefore always give a tone of unique clarity and sustain. Slight vibratory sounds in the shyai can not always be ruled out, though. They are not a defect, but an individual touch of the specific instrument.
Strong straps (buffalo skin) and even tuning wedges (hardwood) round off the attractive general impression of the Narayan Badya Bhandar Premium dayan.
Bayan
The Narayan Badya Bhandar Premium bayan is made of heavy copper and is chromium plated. It has a weight of 3 to 3.5 kg and a particularly carefully made skin. This gives it a very powerful, dynamic and balanced bass sound. Its standard diameter is 9 inches (= 22.86 cm).
Accessories
A pair of fibreglass tabla covers, a pair of premium quality tabla rings (please select your favourite colour!) and a heavy brass tuning hammer are included when buying a set of tabla and bayan.

If you would like to buy a Narayan Badya Bhandar Premium tabla set, please think about the required size of the dayan. The smaller its diameter the higher its pitch. The size of your hands is an important factor as well. Very small dayans are hard to play with very big hands - and vice versa. Bigger dayans make it easier for beginners to practice a clear finger placing for the different strokes.
