Traditionally the kachhi dhol is hung around the neck with a rope and is played for festivities, dances and rituals, often open-air and in large ensembles. It is headed with plain goat skins, but the bass skin has an internal coating to add weight and power to the bass sound. The tension of the skins is adjusted with a rope fitting and rings. On request we can also order a version with synthetic skins and nut and bolt fitting. The kachhi dhol is a cheaper and lighter alternative to the heavy and expensive bhangra dhol, which is not part of our standard assortment any more.

Sound sample performed by tabla player Soumitrajit Chatterjee.

Features
