RAVI SHANKAR STYLE SITAR

These instruments have four melody strings, three drone strings and 13 sympathetic strings, an additional upper sound box and are lavishly decorated. They are also called kharaj-pancham-sitars.

VILAYAT KHAN STYLE SITAR

These instruments have two melody strings, four drone strings, 11 to 13 sympathetic strings, no upper sound box and a chaste, puristic design. They are also called gandhar-pancham-sitars.
